As I sit here on the final day of the Intel Intensive at uni, we're talking about the benefits of using blogs and wikis in an educational context. I think i'll check out some of the sites mentioned which include Wikispaces and EduBlogs. Who'd have thought - class sanctioned blogging time!
I've been back at uni now for just on 2 months. Admittedly, shaking off the cobwebs from the past 7 years' absence from the academic arena has been a little more challenging that I originally thought, but the excitement of a new challenge and the prospect of becoming a fully fledged teacher seems to keep me going.
Why is it then that I feel like Tom Hanks' character, Captain Miller, from Saving Private Ryan? In the opening few minutes of the movie he zones out. At Omaha Beach, he's in the middle of perhaps one of the most crucial and dangerous amphibious landing operations in military history and he manages to hold a distant gaze into the horizon. Perhaps he was contemplating his family at home or wondered what on earth he was doing thousands of miles from home - who knows? It might've been a short time to him but it was a very long time for the audience watching.
Thankfully though, he snapped out of it and continued his way to help establish a beachhead for the Allied invasionary forces. We all know how that worked out. :)
I really hope I snap out of it soon. I want to give this course a red-hot go and be the best teacher I can be. ;)
Have you had a Captain Miller moment lately?
there's something about glory colours of the sky early in the morning. the sun peeking through the clouds in an amazing blast of brilliance, lighting up hot air balloons on a quiet Melbourne morning. they hang tenuously in the air and drift, ready to be blown away by the stillness...
things have turned. mostly good and some bad whilst some things just remain unclear - what's to be awkward about? here's to 2009 as it unfolds...
